How expensive are the plates that are broken in a Greek wedding?

In a Greek wedding: At the reception, plates are broken on the dance floor (or some other hard surface) for good luck. A member of the immediate family begins and others quickly join in with much yelling and laughing as the plates shatter.

  1. If I know the Greeks, fairly cheap. ;) I'm pretty sure they're just your basic white plate that you can get for even $1 at the dollar store. No need to spend a lot of $ on something that will just get broken.
  2. My guess is that they are probably not very expensive. Probably they can be bought at a dollar tree... if they're just bought to be broken there's no real need to get handmade works of art.
  3. If they're the same ones I remember the Greeks using when I went to Greece on a family holiday, they weren't real "plates" as such, they were just basic bits of clay molded to look like plates. Even if they're not as above, I doubt they're very expensive, nobody would buy bone china just to smash it.
  4. they are bulk plates that you can get at a restaurant supplies store you can get 50 for about 75.00 worked in a greek venu an thats what we used we went threw tons of them
