I am having my wedding reception in a picnic pavilion and I need creative ways to make it pretty. HELP!?

The wedding is in October, we are planning on having some delicious kabobs barbecued on the premises. Some fruit kabobs as well, and other various dishes that still need to be decided. There will already be a cake reception at the location of our wedding so the dinner reception does not need to be very fancy, I just really need some ideas as to how it could look pretty. Colors are grey, pink and white.

  1. How about making the whole place look like it's one giant cake. Remember how Disney decorated the entire castle to make it a giant birthday cake, well something like that. You can mini cakes in each table and have a giant paper-mache cake in the middle where at the start of the reception you'll pop out of, with flare and fanfare. Maybe you or your sons/daughters can play a trumpet at your arrival. Wait a minute. You just said that this is in October. October is past us. Or are you talking about this coming October. Oh, my goodness you have plenty of time to plan this through. Pick a theme that your spouse and you like. Like if you like the jungle then have a jungle with a giant gorilla mannequin and some rolled up paper with hanging monkeys. Or maybe make it look like your favorite Taylor Swift video. You could recreate the "Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone..." and yeah that sounds good. I'm gonna go eat bean soup. Anyway, it's hard to know what you want since you didn't really talk about what you like.
  2. You can hang chinese paper lanterns form the ceiling with tealights (battery operated) inside, in your wedding colors. Will look very pretty during the evening. Hang white lights around the pavilion also in the ceiling. To make it special, you could still use linens (instead of the normal plastic tableclothes you'd normally see for picnics). Use china , silverware and glassware instead of plastic -- if you can arrange that for rental. Nice centerpieces also.
  3. Lots off tulle in soft pink and grey and whites. Get long strands and cover the entire ceiling with strips of them. Either from the center to every corner and fill it in between, or from one side to another just forming horizontal strips with them. But don't stretch it tight with the width- scrunch it somewhat together. It will make it very soft and romantic-if that is what you might be going for. You would probably need 15 to 30 strips of 15 feet or what ever length of the pavilion it is. OR, hanging the strips down like a curtain on each side and then on 2 ends tie each side back like curtains welcoming guests to enter or exit. Get a roll of the bridal isle runners and roll it from the pavilion to the parking lot(depending on the privacy and availability) tiki torches around each sides luminating the area. That sounds like so much fun to play with ideas for the pavilion! Good luck and congratulations!
  4. -Wrap columns with white lights and tulle. The tulle could be pink or white. -Hang white lights around the edge of the pavilion. -Drape white or pink fabric around edge of pavilion. -Drape white or pink fabric from the ceiling. http://s3.amazonaws.com/wedding_prod/photos/8becd7a1d2205fc18f6873d2f471189c_s -Hang white and pink paper lanterns from the ceiling or around the edges of the pavilion. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/36/110471533_c6f6afb8ef.jpg -Hang white lights from the ceiling. -Sprinkle pink rose petals on the floor. -Or you could try balloons. http://www.atlantaevents.biz/images/wedding/A-Garden-Wedding-bg.jpg http://www.atlantaevents.biz/images/wedding/A-Garden-Wedding-T-bg.jpg
  5. I think the best way is to look at pictures of other weddings that had lots of DIY projects. Wooden benches can undergo an amazing transformation when wrapped in tulle and tied with flowers, while simple tables can be draped with layers of fabric that you can buy at any fabric store and topped with beautiful centerpieces. Light little votive candles during the day and woodsy favors like dried lavender sachets look amazing alongside hand-written table cards.
